Are you aware of the requirements to operate a chimney sweep company in Wilmington?
Seaside Sweep, Inc. is the only chimney maintenance company in this area that has been certified by the CSIA (Chimney Safety Institute of America) #4078 and members of the NCSG (National Chimney Sweep Guild) and is also the only company the holds the required mechanical license (#10622) to operate in New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick counties!
Having proudly served in this industry for over 40 years, we are southeastern North Carolina’s oldest and most reputable chimney maintenance company!
If you are considering using any chimney sweep to perform even the most rudimentary task of just sweeping your chimney, it is required by local code statutes that they must be licensed!
Although there are other chimney sweep companies in and around Wilmington that advertise that they are Certified and Licensed, they are not!
Why is this important?
Any company can inspect your chimney but in order to sweep it, or perform any type of repair, they must have the required license. (Weird huh? We don’t make the rules, we just abide by ’em!)
Go to CSIA.org (Chimney Safety Institute of America) OR NCSG.org (National Chimney Sweep Guild) to verify our credentials.
Chimney sweeps play an important role in keeping fireplaces, wood stoves, gas fireplaces and chimneys in good working order. These professionals have to know what they’re doing when they stick their heads down (or up) a chimney. In order to do that, chimney sweeps obtain specialized training in order to attain the highest certifications in this field.
So what does a company have to do to become “certified?”
When you train to become a Certified Chimney Sweep (CCS), you do so through courses sanctioned by the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA). Through these courses they learn the guidelines and precautions needed to safely sweep and inspect chimneys. You must pass written exams which cover safety, policies and procedures. You have to have a thorough understanding of National Fire Protection Association 211 Standards (NFPA) and the International Residential Codes (IRC). You must pledge a Code of Ethics. Certification is renewed every three years.
A (CSIA) and (NCSG) Certified Chimney Sweep invests a lot of time, effort (and money) to get and maintain these certifications. So when you contact a Certified Chimney Sweep, you can be assured that you are getting the best!
